Explore with YouTube!

YouTube came in around 2005 when I only used it to watch different music shows. Now, it has became more than just a channel to spread information, but a new platform for creativity to bloom.

This is a video from "The Beauty Inside", an interactive social film which collaborate with other directors and allows the general people to participate in the films. This kind of media can involve more people in the creation process.

The multimodality that it allows has shifted from reading a written text to watching a demonstration from a REAL person or animation. It also provides a new way of communication which is more lively. I think the following video is a great example of multimodality as it combines music (sound), pictures, animations, drawings and video clips in 1 single video.

Every one can contribute their knowledge by making a video with web cam which is affordable and convenient. For example, they can share their tips of make-up, learning English, playing guitar or expressing their points of view. Just like any other social networking sites, it also has a comment section where people can exchange their ideas. This is certainly a good feature that increases interactivity between the user and the audience.

Yet, the user can DELETE certain comments that they don't like or they can even BAN the comment section so that no one could leave a word. There may be a bias here as people can't see the whole picture of how others think of the videos. This may be one of the constraints that YouTube has.

There are so many different kinds of creative work which you can explore in YouTube. Here are my favourite YouTube channels:

~My digital life~

I've never been a tech-savvy person but I do have a facebook app installed in my i-pod touch. I can't resist the temptation that it is so convenient to catch up with my friends and know what they are up to.

Rather than opening a browser and type the address, I can update my status anytime at anywhere with only 1 touch on the app!!!!

I think that facebook has changed the kind of person I am. I was used to be a politically apathetic person, but with numerous shares of different opinions about some hot current affairs in my facebook page, I just feel the need to know what happened and become more exposed to social issues like the national education.

The "like" and "share" buttons are encouraging in a way that make you feel confident as if you have posted something really worth-reading.
(Is it true? I doubt it. Sometimes, people just "habitually"/"accidentally" click the "like":p)

But what I'm sure is that Facebook has expanded my social network as it connects me with the people who have the same interests and thoughts. I can talk to them and exchange ideas on the topics we like. I can even create a group to connect all of us together and share our thoughts to a wider number of audience. This action has brought my relationship with others closer. For me, joining a group can also build up a sense of belonging to a specific community.  My secondary school friend has created a group which is against the implementation of national education in our mother school and I put my name in the group as a way to show my support for my friend's action.

Finally, I recommend "The Social Network" to all those who haven't watched it before!! I think we should not know nothing about the background of facebook when we are actually using it everyday.

P.S. YouTube is definitely one of my favorite websites because it provides me a convenient platform to learn and expand my knowledge!~

ENJOY!!! :)
